International Classroom is a innovative and creative program of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology's Education Department. Our mission is to engage students while promoting intercultural understanding between residents of the Delaware Valley area and people from around the world.

Through the support of local corporations, foundations, and individual donors, the Penn Museum is able to offer a limited amount of free programs to underserved (Title 1) Philadelphia public schools each year. A The International Student Welcome Reception is a special event hosted by International Classroom and sponsored by more than 50 colleges, universities, and programs to welcome new international students and scholars to the Delaware Valley. This free event draws nearly 1,000 students and scholars from around 85 different countries each. Held every year in the magnificent Chinese Rotunda, it is the only large-scale welcome reception of its kind in the region, drawing an ever-growing number of college and university international students to meet each other and learn about resources for multicultural education. It is considered the national model among international educators.

Maya 2012: Lords of Time

MAYA 2012For the past quarter century, international scholars, Maya enthusiasts, artists, linguists, archaeologists and others have joined together for a lively weekend of engaging talks and programs centering around the Maya world. During the weekend, numerous other lectures and language workshops provide opportunities for attendees to learn about Maya culture and current archaeological work at Maya sites. Participants can expect a rich intellectual experience—and activity choices—as the weekend provides diverse opportunities for engagement.

This year's 30th Maya Weekend is held in conjunction with the exhibition Maya 2012: Lords of Time.

Wednesday nights ring out this summer in University City, as the rich sounds of international music return to the lush garden setting at Penn Museum. The third annual P.M. @ Penn Museum Summer Nights music series features weekly performances on Wednesdays, June 20 through August 29, in the Penn Museum’s Stoner Courtyard.

wpocrowdThe summer lineup features musical styles ranging from Middle Eastern folk/rock to Brazilian Bossa Nova and lively Creole Zydeco to funk fusion. For the after-work crowd, P.M. @ Penn Museum Summer Nights offers great live performances in a relaxed outdoor locale, as well as drinks and light fare from the Pepper Mill Café’s garden bar, and the chance to explore Penn Museum’s many galleries. Concerts move inside in the event of rain. Museum galleries, including the special exhibition MAYA 2012: Lords of Time, are open until 8:00 pm.

General Admission
$5 (and includes Museum entry fee). For just a $10.50 upgrade, adults and children alike can enjoy the concert. Tour MAYA 2012 for only $15.50 per person, a savings of up to $7.00 per adult. General admission is free for PENNcard holders and Museum members.
