Description | Sommerville: Pale sardonyx. Semele, a breviary ring of Philip II of Spain, with knobs or points, used to count prayers. Gold and Silver Rings - Cameos, Case OOO. Vermeule: Sard. Cameo. (Modern gold ring setting) Rosary ring. Draped bust of a maenad (Semele) facing to left, grape leaves and grape clusters in hair. The expression is composed and dignified. 10 on setting, probably rosary ring. Italian, late 17th or early 18th? |
