Description

Made from a V-or fork-shaped piece of wood which has been mounted on a half gourd. The open end of the gourd is held against the chest when played and acts as a resonator. The frame is lashed onto the gourd with a combination of cane and fiber. The are 8 horizontal strings, and 2 tin discs or rattles at the end of each arm of the V-frame. A long horizontal piece of wood conects the 2 tips of the V, lending the frame more support. N.B. The Loma attribution is mine. Although it could also possibly be Kru, this type of harp is so distinctive that "Loma harp" is a generic term well.
