Male terracotta votive head; Central Italy, undoubtedly from a sanctuary, votive deposit; capite velato type; large example; very fine; preserves some paint; may have been trimmed from a votive statue - bust extends lower, has been filed off, without trace of finished base. Complete and intact save for a section of mantle above top of head and a bit of mantle on lower right. Forward part of head, including neck and top od chest, only represented. Frontal pose; double curve locks above forehead. Framed by a simplified representation of a mantle drawn over head. Back plain; vent hole 0.04m in diamter. On lower edge, all around, are prominent string marks; finger marks down length of back. Hard pinkish buff clay. Possible traces of red on face. Slightly under life size.
