Description

Quilted. The object is a soldier's cap that would likely have been worn under a helmet. The upper cap that fits over the top of the head is beige (faded from yellow-orange) quilted cotton. A stiff textile flap to protect the sides and back of the head hangs down from the cap's bottom edge. The flap interior is constructed of several layers of coarse woven textile glued together into a flat board-like structure. The flap exterior is covered with a floral and geometric print cotton(?) fabric in red, green, yellow and beige. The flap interior is covered with a solid blue-green cotton(?) textile. A similar textile is wrapped around the front and bottom edges to create a contrasting border. Four tassels made of red, green, dark blue and beige yarns are attached to the lower edge, with one at each front corner and two in the rear.
