Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted blue and yellow over the bulging eyes and black over the mouth. The mouth is a black beak bearing painted teeth. Tufts of feathers are attached to the sides and back of the head. The body is painted red, blue and yellow and the waist is covered by a painted kilt. A bow is held in the left hand and a whip in the right. This figure is the Long Billed (Wupamo) Whipper Katsina. Made by Jimmy Nequatewa. (Colton, H. 1959 #41, Wright, B., 1973 #29) |
