Description

Small cone shaped hat consisting of varnished exterior strips of bamboo or grass fiber painted red; the exterior strips are anchored at crown with narrower strips painted in three colors ( red, black and yellow) and woven into a pentagonal shape; the lining is woven grass fiber; three cotton strips knotted on exterior are pulled through to underside and serve as chin straps. Two Chinese characters painted on the front and two on the inside, 永吉 Yongji, a county in Jilin Province.
