Description | Cylindrical birchbark container; upper and lower rims formed by several layers of wood strips bound by wood splints; cylinder formed by a continuous band of brown birchbark; inner surface lined with a strip of white birchbark; decorative band (9.5 cm wide) of black cut-out birchbark applique applied to outer surface of the container; stylized scrollwork is main design element of this band; curvilinear incising appears on the birchbark near the upper and lower rims of the container; leather thong handles attached to opposite sides of the container. |
