Description | Rim-sherd from a bowl or basin with nearly straight profile and thickened rim. Medium textured, unevenly colored reddish yellow (7.5 YR 7/6) clay with light and dark inclusions, covered with black paint, with decoration in added white paint. Handmade. Dark painted on inside of rim and on exterior. Added white: dots and crescents between thin diagonal lines, with foliate band below. Surface eroded. Comments: MM II-III, based on the form of the foliate band (Wahlberg 1976: Motif 25, no IV). For the dots see Wahlberg 1983: Motif 20, nos. 8, 12, and 13. Compare MS4700.5, from the same or generally similar vessel. |
