Description

(67-39-18 to 67-39-20) Button shaped hollow discs with vertical flange (open at the back), hammered up from thin sheets, decorated in repousse with 8 tear-drop shaped petals, each outlined and accented by similarly-shaped engraved line. Pierced at center by a tack whose head is rounded and engraved (?) with lines radiating from the top center down; pin goes through then is turned around back to form a mounting loop underneath. 18) distorted from round to irregular oval shape. Fairly smooth patina, light green to almost black. Traces of blue inside. 19) Distorted to irregular shape. Eaten and damaged by reddish corrosion at one end (from contact with iron?). Grainy patina, lt. green to almost black; traces of blue inside. 20) Smaller than previous two but has kept round shape better. Top is more convex. Small piece broken off flange with crack going from it onto face of rosette. Fairly smooth lt. green patina; traces of blue inside. Do these go with furniture (67-39-87/104), which preservation resembles, horse trappings, or are they buttons? For a possible unfinished blank for one of these cf. 67-39-289.
