Description | Sommerville: Onyx. A Flute-Player. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case U. Vermeule: Onyx. Cameo. (Unmounted). Half-figure bust of a youth, probably a young faun or satyr, head facing 3/4 to left, blowing on double flutes. A sheepskin-like garment is worn about the neck. The iconography reminds one of that used for the young John the Baptist, but the subject seems 17th century. |
