| Description | Hammerstone Fragment. Smooth rounded end with pictage marks, or marks from striking. Dark colored stone. This hammerstone fragment shows pictage marks, or marks from striking or chipping. This feature is commonly found on this type of tool which were typically unaltered oblong stones with atleast one rounded end. They were probably used for chipping away at other stones to create stone tools of various forms. Hammerstones frequently are found in Paleolithic sites throughout Japan. Thus 13109 represents the stone technology of Late Paleolithic Japan. |
