Description

Sommerville: Carnelian. Charon, passing over the Styx in his bark to conduct the souls after death to Avernus. Observe the bird in one hand and the flames in the other. Gold Rings - Intaglios, Case GGG.

Vermeule: Sard. Intaglio. (Modern gold (reset) ring mount) An Italian 18th imitation of a Roman Gryllos type subject probably Chiron conducting souls of the dead across the Styx in his boat.
