Description | Redware with Heads; 2 Handles, arms painted on body, hand free modeled Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with an ovate body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a conical (aribaloid) base. There is a face with painted and modeled features including painted eyes, modeled nose, ear spools, and mouth. Two arms on the body are painted in black and white with modeled hands protruding from the body. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2756." |
