Description

Ivory, lion in the round, well cut.

Muscarella Publication: "The forepart of a crouching lion, with most of the left and part of the right foot extant. The body is in the round and is free of decoration but for an incised tulip design on the legs. Whiskers and nose wrinkles are in relief; the deep-set eyes are hallowed out to hold inlays. The interior of the open mouth is solid and the teeth are carved in relief; the lower jaw is missing. Ears, round knobs set within a crescent, are placed above the thick ruff, at the base of a slightly gabled head."
