| Description | A wooden kotiate (lobed hand club), flat blade with notched/lobed sides. Both sides of the blade are intricately carved. The reke (butt of the weapon) is carved in the shape of a head with moko (tattoo) present. The attached wrist cord (tau) is made of plaited harakeke (New Zealand flax). A kotiate is a short-handled thrusting weapon made of either bone or wood that is used in close combat. |
