Effigy Vessel

Globular body, wide vertical neck. Representing a cat; head in relief, painted, limbs indicated.

Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an effigy-zoomorphic body, flaring neck, rounded rim, no handles, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. shaped like a jaguar. The vessel is shaped like a seated felid (Jaguar) with a protruding hollow head at the front. The vessel is painted with the eyes and other features of the jaguar. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on interior of neck. No other numbers are visible on the object.
