Description

Sommerville: Maculated Sardonyx. Greek Double - Obverse Hippocrates. Reverse: The Serpent on a Staff, the symbol of Aesculapius. Greek Inscription (see catalogue for transcription) "Hippocrates of Larisseans to the Dodonian Zeus" (or Jupiter). Greek and Roman Cameos, Case A.

Vermeule: Sardonyx. Cameo. [modern silvered pendant setting]. Double gem. Obverse: Head of Hippocrates to right. Reverse: Serpent and staff, the emblems of Aesculapius. Greek inscription surround head.
