Description

Depressed body, flaring rim, wide mouth: two vertical loop handles on body alternating with frogs in low relief

Cooking pot (olla) with a globular body, flaring collar, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has two raised and incised frogs on the body between the handles. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange and gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes residues/staining on the exterior and soot on the exterior. There is a metallic/shiny accretion that look like blisters on the bottom of the base. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1642."
