Stela 14

Piedras Negras Stela 14 - Large limestone stela. Front surface portrays a seated king with legs crossed and hands on knees, wearing an elaborate headdress that features hieroglyphic elements spelling his name. A ladder leads up to the bench where the ruler sits. At the lower left is standing woman, most likely his mother. Six small groups of hieroglyphs are scattered on the front surface of the monument, each the signature of a sculptor who contributed work. 11 pieces of the monument were received in 1931, the balance in March 1933.
