Description

Vermeule: Sardonyx-Chalcedony in four layers. Cameo. (Modern gold ring setting). Kneeling warrior facing left carries shield with gorgoneion on it. cf 1815. Subject perhaps represents Ajax preparing to commit suicide. 18th century.
