Description | Carved ivory lobster with hinged and movable legs, antennae, as well as sections of tail. Intricate, life-like textures are carved onto the legs to represent hair; textures on the tail sections imitate scales. The back and the antennae have spines. Eyes of the lobster are made of metal and hinged to move quite freely. Five legs and one claw are detached from the left side of the carving; three Japanese characters (南海作, Nankai Saku) are carved onto the underside of the center tail section. |
