Description

Kotyle. Mended, plastered, pieces missing. Most of the glaze disappeared. Low ring base, oblique on interior. Steep walls, slightly flaring, curved in slightly near plain sharpened lip. Horizontal rolled loop handles just under rim. Black and red painted dec. On underfloor, 2 small black concentric circles. On body, short black rays, thin band of checkerboard pattern. Then, frieze of figure dec. to just below handle, topped by another thin band of checkerboard pattern, Frieze: very large red and black palmette, extends into border above. To L, large panther, To R, duck with raised wing. Above upper checkerboard, in handle zone, vertical wavy lines. Narrow band at lip. Interior entirely brown. Fine fabric, fine clay. Fired creamy buff throughout.
