Description

Small red bottle of clay with face on neck; arms on body made by thing strips of clay applied; feet appearing below as knobs with incised lines, one vertical loop handle

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a globular body, tapered neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. There is a modeled and incised face on the neck with protruding ears and nose, with incised eyes and mouth. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is buff in color. There are possible textile impressions on the bottom of the base. The catalogue number is written in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2765."
