Description | Fresco fragment from Cave 9 of the Bezeklik caves. Head of a bodhisattva, turned towards viewer's right. On brown clay with coating of jesso. Outlines in black. Flesh tinted with light red. Loops of mat maroon hair over ears and down shoulders with upper hair over temples and on top of head. Hair, lips and borders of halo in dark mat red. One border is worked out lighter red, as is the figure's left shoulder. Traces of green in halo and on collar. The inscription on the back reads: III Reise M[ing]. Ö[i]. M[urtuq]. Höhle I im Schutt gefunden. [in pencil] No. 10. Translation: 3rd expedition, Ming-Öi, Murtuq, Cave I Found in the rubble. No. 10 |
