Description

Intact but for single mend on front of lip. White wash abraded in many places.

Ring base flaring and sturdy, body tight ovoid merging into short neck. Trefoil mouth is tightly pinched in and is beveled on exterior of lip. Double rolled handle up from lip and down straight to outer shoulder.

Painted dec. : thin white matt base-coat from top of neck to low on body; washy brown/red glaze solid on rim, handles and below white coat on lower body and base ring (under base reserved). Over white coat; on body, three bands of three thin lines each, on shoulder overlapping pendent hooklike loops, on each side of neck a couchant fawn with solid neck and flank areas and dotted mid-body, at front of neck a filling ornament, cross in four petals.

Fabric thin, well smoothed on wheel but not burnished under paint. Fired brownish red on surfaces; core unknown.
