Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is unpainted with black corn stalks forming the nose and arching over the eyes. Bird tracks are painted below the eyes and tufts of feathers are attached to the top and sides of the head. A non-Native coat is painted in red over the body and white stockings are worn underneath. This figure is one of the Chief Katsinam, Qoqole (or Qoqlo or Kokole). (Colton, H. 1959 #15, Wright, B., 1973 #12) |
