Description | Illumination cut from a folio of a Thai manuscript showing Indra listening to a sermon by Phra Malai. Phra Malai's face has been rubbed away. On the verso is text from the Phra Malai. Written in Thai (Khom script) in blank in on khoi paper, 5 lines per segment. Manuscript originally folded concertina- or accordion-style, but this fragment of one folio is stored flat. Painting of temple scene with stupa in center and altar with flowers in vases and candles. Written and painted in central Siam in the late 19th century. |
