| Description | A round stone mirror (kilo pōhaku), with a circular perforation near one edge. One side of the mirror has several chips along the edge. The kilo pōhaku, or stone mirror, is a thin circular disk made from dense volcanic stone that was carefully ground smooth, polished, and treated with oil. The disk produced no reflection when dry, but when placed in a shallow container of water, the dark stone surface created a clear reflected image. |
