Description

Sounding-box rectangular, built up of five pieces (sides and bottom) covered with parchment or vellum. Two large round perforation in resonator cover. Five tuning peg, with five strings. Seperate, narrow strip of light-coloured skin stretched across sounding-box bears Arabic inscription. Two cowry shells hang by a string of beads from top of stem.
