Description

Red clay vessel representing a spotted cat wearing a collar; cylindrical neck, joined to cats head by horizontal handle with whistle on handle.

Narrow necked whistling vessel with an effigy-zoomorphic body, cylindrical neck, flanged rim, 1 bridge handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel is in the shape of a felid (jaguar) and is painted red with white spots and black outlines. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads:"2773."
