Description

A pū lāʻau (wood puzzle) made of a slender, rectangular piece of wood. Three circular perforations are in the center of the object, with a cord drawn through each hole.

The puzzle was made in the Museum by Hawaiian sailors in 1898.

Puzzles were used as a form of recreation by children and adults. The objective of the pū lāʻau was for the wooden block to be separated from the cord. It was a typically a two person game, with the cord being held by one person while the second individual tried to remove the block.
