Cup

Pottery: red-white-black. Flat base, pear shaped body. painted with human face. Incomplete

Cup or 'qero' with a tapering body, no neck/collar, rounded rim, no handles, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel has a painted face on one side of the body with eyes, eyebrows, and wavy lines extending from below the eyes in black and white. There is a painted rim with geometric design in white and black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior and a smoothed finish on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the base and body. There are striations at interior from smoothing tool. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the interior of vessel reads: "3732."
