Description | Pottery: painted red black and white. Annular base, depressed body, neck with everted lip; two vertical loop handles. modeled face in relief on lower neck; hand in relief on body. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, effigy-anthropomorphic neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a ring base/foot base. The vessel has a molded face on the neck with modeled and incised details including ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. There are modeled arms in relief on the body. The vessel is painted with zigzags around the body in red, white, and gray? The details of the face are also painted in red, white, and gray. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1815." |
